God and Religion

Your beliefs will strengthen you…

We all believe in something. There is only one absolute truth and all that we believe stems from what we accept as truth. What determines our source of truth? Television, our friends, our teachers, our music, movies, the media, newspapers, etc.

In the years of my life I have found that there is only one source of truth and that is through “the truth and the life”. God’s word is truth. Satan is the father of lies and I have learned that for some reason it is easier for us to believe a lie than the truth, because sometimes the truth doesn’t make sense. God’s word says, “And you shall know the truth and the truth will make you free.” Freedom is what all of us are ultimately looking for. One of my daily prayers for your years has been: “Lord, I want to know truth.” I do not want to walk in deception nor be deceived. I desire truth in my inward parts. The world has many philosophers – which one will you believe? God is truly the only source of truth. All of the other philosophies come from the mind and hearts of evil. All of our beliefs are based upon what we perceive as truth. May the Spirit of truth guide you into all truth. John 16:13.

If you believe in the Lord, He will do half of the work — but only the second half. He works with those who will work along with Him.

Your faith can provide purpose in every day…

What or who is your faith in? Yourself, others, we all have faith in someone or something. We place our faith in our job to sustain us, in our education to carry us, in our friends and family to support us. In ourselves, to get us where we are going. All of these areas are good – and can be an encouragement to us, but ultimately each one will fail us one time or another. You need a foundation, a rock-bed – to establish your faith – so that as you build your house of faith they will be supported by the foundation. That foundation is God – Who has a wonderful plan for your life – plans of good and not evil, that He will bring you to an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11-14. His way is the way of peace and blessing. Don’t put your foundational faith in things that will pass away and crumble. Guard your heart. The things of life are transitory – they will pass away – but God has been around a long time!

And He will be around for a lot longer – eternity is a long time. We shall pass away – and all the things we put our faith and trust in. Accept the eternal God, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I have walked with Him for 58 years at this point in time and he has never failed me, forsaken me, done me evil, nor harmed me. He is truly my Redeemer!

It is faith in something and enthusiasm for something that makes life worth looking at.

— Oliver Wendell Holmes

Appreciate God’s gifts…

His gifts are not just “things.” The greatest gift is Himself, the precious gift of love! God is love. The gift of “life” is from Him. The “air I breathe”, “the song I sing”, the awakening in my heart to seek Him, to know Him, to worship Him. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him, though it may come indirectly from a human being. People are the means by which He bestows gifts on us. Because God loves us He delights in giving food gifts to us. He supplies our need on a daily basis – and even throws in our wants sometimes as well. His spiritual gifts equip us to live an abundant life (Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12 & 14). All of nature and His marvelous creation are delightful gifts to us. A beautiful sunset, a majestic mountain, a cascading waterfall, myriads of flowers and trees, a snowflake, a soft summer rain, the different songs of the birds, the fragrances of the earth and all it produces for us – fruit and grain and the sustenance to maintain life, water and air and oxygen, the beauty of the heavens, the sun, moon and stars, the galaxies that declare His story in pictures. The awesome wonder of life itself as you experience the birth of a new human baby! The gift of your mind, enabling you to think and reason, your hands to work and play with, your emotions to feel with, your will to get you through life. The intricacy of your body itself. The organs, muscles, tendons, veins, ligaments, blood, etc. all working together to keep that machine called our body working efficiently. Sadly, we don’t really appreciate it until one of those is injured or incapacitated. Our health is one of God’s most precious gifts to us. Appreciate all of it! And learn to recognize all the gifts He bestows on you in your life.

Let never the night unhallowed pass, but still remember what the Lord hath done.

— William Shakespeare

Let God be your guide…

For years some of my favorite verses are Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not on thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.” Our own understanding is what gets us into trouble. The issues of life are so involved and so complex that we can in no way understand all the ins and outs and ups and downs we go through. We need a lode star, a plumb line, a cornerstone as it were, to keep our direction right. God has always been that One for me. I have let Him lead me since I was 16 years old. I accepted Him when I was 8, but surrendered my life to Him when I was 16. He has never led me wrong nor forsaken me, nor left me. No matter what I’ve done, where I’ve gone or who I’ve been with. He has always been there with me and for me. He has made choices for me that I would never have made for myself – and I am so thankful as I look back, that I surrendered my will to his way instead of my own way. His way has led to a very fulfilled life. Life is hard, no matter which way we go. I encourage you and pray that you will choose God to be your Companion, your Guide, and your Shepherd.

Inability to tell good from evil is the greatest worry of man’s life.
